Cadillac Creates V-Series Performance Playground

This month marked the public opening of the Cadillac V-Series Academy at Spring Mountain Motor Resort & Country Club, where enthusiasts can register for one- and two-day immersions to learn the finer points of high performance driving in the Cadillac CTS-V.

The sprawling automotive playground outside Las Vegas features more than four miles of racetrack and 125 feet of elevation change. The V-Series Academy at Spring Mountain curriculum will continuously challenge participants with a blend of car control exercises and on-track performance driving, tailored to explore the capabilities of Cadillac’s V-Series family.

V-Series Academy curriculum was designed by legendary race car driver Ron Fellows, a class winner at the 24 Hours of Daytona and Le Mans.

“The experience of driving a Cadillac V-Series car is extremely convincing,” said Don Butler, vice president of Cadillac marketing. “This new partnership with Spring Mountain Motorsports Ranch opens a new experience in a truly luxurious setting for consumers to enhance their skills and put a series of world-class performance cars to the test.”

The Cadillac V-Series Academy classes at Spring Mountain Motorsports Ranch will be offered throughout the year and are limited to 12 students per session. One-day sessions will be $1,295 and two-day immersions are $2,295. To register, visit www.CadillacVAcademy.com.

Here's A Tip To Extend The Life Of Your Car

Wax to protect your car’s paint job.

No way around it! Waxing your car is work. But it’s satisfying work that will help keep your car looking new. Car wax preserves paint by slowing oxidation and forming a barrier against bird droppings, sap, and pollution. Plus driving a nice shiny car is just plain fun.

Here’s what to do to ensure the maximum in protection:

Liquid and spray waxes are tempting to use — they make the car shiny with less work than rubbing in paste wax. But there’s still no beating paste wax for the hardest, longest-lasting finish. Look for paste with a high carnauba wax content.
Apply a thin, even coat of wax to the car’s surfaces with a damp sponge. Avoid applying too much, or it will be difficult to remove and some residue will inevitably mar your finish.
To avoid fine scratches, use a clean, soft cotton or microfiber cloth to remove wax once it has dried.
Apply an extra coat of wax to the nose and hood. The wax film in these areas wears away quickly.

NAIAS 2013: Cadillac Unveils 2014 ELR Extended Range EV at Detroit Auto Show

Cadillac just unveiled its version of the Chevy Volt today at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show - the 2014 Cadillac ELR! The ELR draws its inspiration from the Cadillac Converj concept that was unveiled back in 2009. In addition to its electric powertrain, the Cadillac ELR's exterior establishes a new, progressive proportion for the brand while the interior introduces a new design theme that will define future Cadillac models.

The ELR is powered by GM EREV technology that is uniquely tuned for Cadillac in the ELR. It combines pure electric drive and an efficient, range-extending 1.4L gasoline-powered electric generator capable of generating 207 horsepower. The ELR’s battery is a T-shaped, 16.5 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, located along the centerline of the vehicle, between the front and rear wheels for optimal weight distribution. The 5.5-foot-long, 435-pound pack supplies energy to an advanced electric drive unit that generates 295 lb.-ft. of instant torque to propel the vehicle. Using only the energy stored in the battery, the ELR will deliver an estimated range of about 35 miles of pure electric driving.

Charging the ELR’s battery can be done with a 120V electrical outlet or a dedicated 240V charging station. The vehicle can be completely recharged in about 4.5 hours using a 240V outlet. In all-electric mode the ELR emits very little noise, so the ELR features, a driver-activated feature sounds a noise to alert pedestrians, particularly those with visual impairments, in an intersection.

Inside the ELR has room for up to four passengers and features Cadillac’s CUE infotainment system and a Bose 10-channel audio system with active noise cancellation. It also gets advanced active safety features, including Safety Alert Seat, Forward Collision Alert and Lane Departure Warning, along with available Side Blind Zone Alert with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert and full-speed-range adaptive cruise control.

“ELR marks a fresh, even surprising new dimension of Cadillac,” said Bob Ferguson, Cadillac global vice president. “An additional aspect of ELR’s appeal to will be exclusivity. It will be a specialized offering produced in limited numbers.”

ELR production begins in the United States in late 2013 with sales starting in early 2014 in North America and expanding to global markets including China and Europe.

Cadillac ATS Wins 2013 North American Car of the Year

The 2013 Cadillac ATS luxury sport sedan today was named the winner of the North American Car of the Year award.

A jury of 49 automotive journalists considered every new car released in the past year, and selected ATS as the winner. The award was announced at a press conference opening the 25th annual North American International Auto Show.

"This is a very meaningful honor for the entire Cadillac team, especially the men and women who build the ATS in Lansing, Michigan, and our dedicated and talented designers and engineers,” said Bob Ferguson, GM vice president, global Cadillac. “A car like ATS is the result of incredible commitment and focus. That’s the only method for creating a great performing luxury car."

The new ATS is the lightest car in its class with a unique architecture designed for nimble driving performance. The North American Car of the Year award is the latest in a growing list of accolades for the ATS, which was named Car of the Year by Esquire, and   the Motor Press Guild, as well as several other awards.

A compact sport sedan, the ATS is offered in rear- and all-wheel drive versions, with a choice of powerful and efficient four- and six-cylinder engines. Cadillac Posts Best Retail Sales Since 2007

Increased demand from retail luxury buyers drove Cadillac U.S. sales in December 12 percent higher compared with December 2011and 26 percent above November 2012. The brand closed 2012 with its highest retail sales total since 2007, due to popularity of the new ATS sport sedan, XTS luxury sedan and SRX crossover.

The new ATS Sport Sedan is averaging a segment-best just 25 “days-to-turn” – the average time a car remains in inventory before being sold. The new 2014 XTS luxury sedan is turning at a rate of 39 days, also much quicker than the industry average of 60 to 90 days.

“We’re building momentum in the market based on product strength,” said Chase Hawkins, vice president of Cadillac sales. “We’ve earned seven consecutive months of sales increases, while reducing incentives to the lowest level in more than a decade. It speaks to the strength of the new ATS and XTS, and our increasing ability to earn conquest sales.”

Sales of the new ATS jumped 38 percent in December compared to November. Among those who traded in   a car and bought an ATS, more than half – 53 percent – were conquests from a rival automaker.

Cadillac sales to fleet customers declined 39 percent in 2012 to the lowest total since 1975, reflecting Cadillac’s emphasis on top-tier luxury retail consumers

SRX total sales were up 20 percent in December over the previous month, making 2012 the best retail and total sales year in the history of the SRX product line.
