Since the days when the silver screen showed moving pictures in only black and white, the Buick brand has been a part of memorable moments in theaters. Here’s a look back at some of the top Buick moments in movie history:
- In the 1943 Best Picture winner Casablanca, Humphrey Bogart appears in two different 1940 Buicks, a Century Convertible Coupe and a Limited Convertible Phaeton. Both cars still exist and have fetched top dollar at auctions in recent decades.
- Actor Judge Reinhold can be seen driving and washing his 1960 Buick LaSabre sedan in his role as Brad Hamilton in the 1982 comedy, Fast Times at Ridgemont High.
- Dustin Hoffman and Tom Cruise guided 1988’s Rain Main to a Best Picture award while spending much of the movie bonding behind the wheel of a 1949 Buick Roadmaster Convertible.
- While their cameos in 1990’s Home Alone are brief, it is clear that the affluent McCallisters are a two-Buick family. An Electra Estate and a LaSabre sedan can be seen in their garage.
- In 2001’s Pearl Harbor, actors Josh Hartnett and Ben Affleck awake from their naps in the seats of a 1941 Buick Roadmaster Phaeton to the sound of fighter planes and machine guns. The car’s powerful straight-8 gets them to an airfield and the rest is history.
- Another Best Picture winner featured a Buick when director Martin Scorsese’s The Departed won in 2007. In it, Irish mob boss Frank Costello, played by Jack Nicholson, is frequently seen driving a 1994 Buick Roadmaster sedan.
- The Fast and the Furious franchise has delivered a long list of memorable car chases and stunts, but perhaps none as memorable as the opening scene of 2009’s Fast and Furious in which Vin Diesel uses a 1987 Buick Grand National to lead a gas tanker heist.
